North of Lake Kerkini rises Mount Beles (also known as Kerkini), a quiet and authentic natural area, ideal both for easy walks in nature and for more demanding hikes for those who wish. The trails pass through beech and oak forests, open meadows, and scenic viewpoints, offering routes that can be adapted to each visitor's pace and level of experience. With gentle guidance from someone who knows the area well and genuinely loves hiking and outdoor life, each walk becomes a safe and meaningful way to connect with the landscape — with views over the lake, the Strymonas valley, and on clear days, as far as Mount Athos. (Available upon prior arrangement.)
The area around Lake Kerkini offers a quiet variety of points of interest, where nature, history, and human presence coexist in harmony. Small chapels, churches, and monasteries, discreetly integrated into the landscape, reflect the area's long-standing spiritual and cultural journey. Alongside them, visitors can discover military fortifications, Byzantine remains, thermal baths, folklore museums, as well as mountain and water landscapes of remarkable natural beauty. This is a place that invites calm exploration, observation, and personal experience, without exaggeration or intrusive development.
